Dear Parents

Earlier this week, Ana (our DRS), Philip Cortesi, Anna Soo Choon and Vavae Nuia (our BoT Bishop Appointees) and myself had the opportunity to listen to David Wells, a Director of Evangelisation from the U.K. David spoke to us about “Evangelisation Beyond the School Gate”. David encouraged us to understand and remember  “why” we believe, “why” we are catholics and “why” our school was built. As part of our discipleship as members of the Church, David challenged us “to look with eyes of love on our world, to see where love is needed and to act accordingly”. It was hugely inspiring and humbling to listen to David and we hope to reflect on our learning and to share this with our BoT, staff, students and community as we strive to be a school where together, we grow in humanity “having hearts of love that sees needs and acts accordingly”.

Parent Education Workshops

WOW! We were thrilled with the number of families that were able to attend the numeracy and literacy workshop sessions on Thursday. It was wonderful to see children playing learning activities with their mums, dads and grandparents. Thank you for participating in and supporting your children’s learning.

DRS News

Feast of the Assumption

MaryYou are invited to come along next week on Tuesday 15 August, as we celebrate the Feast of the Assumption at St Anne’s Catholic Church in Manurewa along with St Anne’s Catholic School. Our Mass will commence at 9:30am with Fr Mike Wooller as our celebrant.  We gather to remember and reflect on Mary our Mother, being assumed both body and soul into heaven at the end of her earthly life.  We reflect on Mary’s wonderful virtues of faithfulness and humility as we listen to the story of her resurrection.

Morning Prayers

It is always a wonderful sight to see the parents who stay and join our Learning Communities for their morning karakia/prayer.  It is a fantastic way of modelling to our children reverence during prayer and so we encourage you to share your prayers with us and to stay until the class karakia is finished.

Excellence

Excellence comes in many forms and it’s always great to celebrate the effort that has gone into hard work and great results.  We show excellence in the class in the way we we work together and support each other, in the way we give everything our very best without holding back.  We see excellence in Cross Country in the way that our students give the best of themselves to complete the course to the best of their abilities.  Excellence can be achieved if we work together and support each other and then celebrate the little things.  For small successes can grow into big achievements.

Priest Visit

20771571_10209809336976708_901642043_oFr Maliu visited Learning Community Moana on Thursday 10 August.  Together, we discussed different ways we can work together to build the Kingdom of God.  We looked at the “Our Father” prayer and unpacked the line of “Give us this day our daily bread”.  What does this mean?  Are we talking about food for our bodies or something more?  The daily bread we need each day is the spiritual gift from God for us to use.  This is all we need to bring his Kingdom here on earth to life.  It’s in the way we treat each other with respect and compassion.  The way we open the door for the stranger, the smile of welcome and the helping hand.  Moana students will certainly be giving thanks for our ‘daily bread’ as we build the Kingdom of God starting from what we do at home and in our beautiful school.

Bike Day

On Friday 18th August, Counties Manukau Sport will be running a Pedal Power Cycle Skills programme with Learning Community Moana students.  Biking is an important skill for students to learn – a skill that will keep them safe and hopefully encourage them to be active! Further information will be distributed

New Families Meeting

On Monday 14th August, we welcome new families to our school with an information meeting. We appreciate this opportunity to meet with our families and to share our school mission and vision statements, Trinity charism and culture, curriculum teaching and learning, graduate students’ profile, Religious Education programme, Innovative Learning Environment, preparation for school start, school organisation and Parish information.

IXL Information

We are pleased to inform you that the school has signed up with IXL. IXL is a comprehensive, curriculum-aligned maths and English practice program offering unlimited problems in thousands of skills. One of the best things about IXL is that your child can use it at school and home, so it’s a great opportunity for you to see their progress!

You should have received a letter by now with instructions on how your child can access the website with their username and password. We hope that you will encourage your son or daughter to use IXL regularly from home.

Daffodil Day

Daffodil-Day-Heading

Daffodil Day is on Friday, 25th of August. It is the Cancer Society’s most important annual fundraiser. We would like to acknowledge the wonderful work the Cancer Society does, and support this worthy cause as a school by encouraging everyone to bring a gold coin/koha donation on the day.

School Signage

School signage is now in place around our school environment. It’s looking really great! Please take time to read the bi-lingual signage with your children.

Reminders

Naming School Uniform

With the students changing into their P.E./Fitness gear more regularly this term, please ensure all school uniform items are well named. We have unnamed clothing in the Lost Property Bin and it would be helpful if we could find the right owners for these items.

Car-parking

downloadAs best practice for Health and Safety procedures, we encourage parents/caregivers to walk into the school environment at the end of the day to collect children from their Learning Communities rather than sit and wait in cars for children to come to you. This keeps the children safe when walking near moving and parked vehicles. Teachers will supervise children who are waiting for pick up, at the boxed seating in front of the Administration Area. Please help us to keep our little ones safe!
